A colorful ceremony at Nii Adjei Kraku II Artificial Turf in Tema New Town climaxed the Ghana Football Association(GFA) and FIFA Football For Schools project which commenced on 10th and ended on 12th August,2023.
The GFA worked with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to train Fifty Physical Education teachers selected from across the country to benefit children between the ages of 4 – 14 years.
The closing ceremony was graced by President, Kurt E.S Okraku, Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, FIFA Director, Fatimata Sidibe Sow, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association Prosper Harrison Addo, Deputy Director of GES, Stephen Kwaku Owusu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema East Municipality, Yohanes Amarh Ashitey, and Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association Samuel Aboabire among others.
The trained teachers are expected to train other Physical Education Teachers in their respective Districts and Regions for the enhancement of the programme.
This project forms part of the GFA’s quest to develop all aspects of the game and to ensure that members are duly supported by FIFA to boost capacity.
The World Football governing body, FIFA, through the Ghana Football Association have made available 30,000 footballs to be distributed to basic schools across the country.
The FIFA Football for Schools administration will continue to work with the Ghana Football Association to coordinate the release of the Football for Schools mobile app in Ghana, as well as to provide appropriate training and capacity-building support for users (selected public schools in Ghana).
