Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton who was unveiled today in Kumasi believes he will transform the Senior National team that has always suffered from a lack of personality both on and off the pitch.
According to the Gaffer, he will instil winners into a side that have been unable to win the AFCON Trophy for since 1982.
The team has won the Africa Cup of Nations four times (1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982), while finishing as runners-up five times (1968, 1970, 1992, 2010, and 2015).
”To represent Ghana and the Black Stars as the head coach is something I am incredibly proud of. It’s something that I will give everything to make the team as successful as possible. It’s something that I will do to make sure that the communication and relationship that I have with the Association [Ghana Football Association], or those around the association and of course the supporters, to give all of my best”.
Chris Hughton’s contract runs till December 31, 2024.
The Former Magpies Boss was appointed as head coach in February, having served as the Black Stars technical advisor in Ghana’s disappointing run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.
Coach Hughton’s immediate assignment is a double header AFCON 23 Qualifiers against Angola. The Black Stars will host Angola on Thursday, March 23 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Ghana lead Group E with a superior goal difference ahead of Angola.
