Japan condemned the Black Princesses to a back-to-back defeat in their second game at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica on Sunday.
As a result of the loss Ghana have been eliminated from group stages of the Competition for the sixth time in a row.
Ghana conceded a penalty after the break and Hamano Maika made no mistake by converting from the spot to give Japan the lead.
The Princesses pushed for the equalizer but conceded another penalty in the 72 minute as Japan extended their lead through Hamano Maika – her second of the day.
Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Rahama Jafaru came on for Mukrama Abdulai and Suzzy Dede Teye respectively but the switches made no meaningful impact as the Japan held on to win 2-0 to progress to the quarter finals.
Ghana are languishing on the button of the Group D standings with zero win and goals.
They will face Netherlands in their last Group D game at the Estadio Nacional De Costa Rica on Wednesday, August 17 at 22:00 GMT.
