A penalty shootout heroics from Abdul Manaf Nurudeen ensured the Black Stars finished third place in the Kirin Cup Soccer Tournament in Japan on Monday.
Manaf Nurudeen saved two penalties as the Black Stars beat Chile 3-1 in the shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.
Ghana were reduced to 9 men after right back Alidu Seidu (66th) and Mubarak Wakaso (78th) were red carded for second bookings in the second half of the game.
During the penalty shootout Jordan Ayew scored for Ghana to level the scores after Fernandez Saez has given Chile the lead.
Ghana goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen saved two kicks from Tomas Jesus Alarcon and Brereton Diaz Benjamin while Mohammed Kudus and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku netted for Ghana.
The Senior National team received $50,000 for finishing third in the the 4-nation tournament designed as part of their build-up to the 2022 World Cup.
Ghana’s next assignment is in September – a back to back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
