Black Stars interim Coach Otto Addo has revealed that Fiorentina midfielder, Alfred Duncan’s decision to hang up his boots from the Senior National team shocks him.
Duncan some couple of days ago shocked Ghanaians when he announced his retirement from the Senior National team.
In a statement released on behalf of the midfielder, Fiorentina stated that being consistently sidelined has led to the player’s decision to call time on his international career.
The 29 years old, said he has been ” humiliated, discriminated against and left aside for years even though he tried to keep the doors open all the time”.
Speaking in pre-match presser ahead of Ghana’s AFCON 23 qualifiers against Madagascar on Wednesday at the Cape coast Stadium, Coach Otto Addo said he was surprise by Duncan’s call to retire.
“The last time I spoke to Alfred Duncan was in February, I gave him an invite but he declined and told me his reasons and I accepted it as a coach,”
“I approached Duncan about a call-up, but the midfielder turned me down. Duncan’s decision to end his international career at the age of 29 surprised me”
“Last time I called was February. I wanted to invite him. He told me the reason why he didn’t want to come. It’s hard for me to understand.”
“He has the opportunity to join a team going to World Cup but he has his reasons. I have to accept it”, the gaffer added.
Alfred Duncan has made 10 appearance for the Black Stars since 2012.
Kick off for Ghana’s clash with Madagascar is at 19:00hrs GMT at the Cape Coast Stadium.
