The Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya has debunked claims that she demanded to be appointed to the Deputy Majority Leader position at the inception of the 8th Parliament.
Ms. Safo was the Deputy Majority Leader in the 7th Parliament.
Speaking on The Pulse on Thursday, she said the claim is a smear campaign meant to bring her reputation into disrepute.
She told the host, Blessed Sogah, that she has never demanded the Deputy Majority Leader position. “That is so, so untrue and I forgive anybody who goes out there to insult me because of hearsay and third party people telling them what they think they know, which is all untrue.”
Adwoa Safo said that she initially refused to respond to the allegations because she did not think her voice would be heard at the time.
“Silence is golden and it was best for me to wait and respond appropriately. This is an attempt to bring my reputation into disrepute, what I have worked for since I was 29 years old and I don’t think I wanted to give in to that,” she said.
In February, 2022, it was alleged that Adwoa Safo was blackmailing the government into giving her back the position of Deputy Majority Leader.
New Juaben South MP, Michael Okyere Baafi, claimed that the Dome-Kwabenya MP wanted to return to the House only after she is given that post.
Hence, Adwoa Safo was using that as a bargaining chip to frustrate government business.
But, vehemently denying the claims, she noted that she is on good terms with her party, government and even members of Parliament.
These are relationships, she said, she has built over the years as an MP and will not jeopardise them.
Meanwhile, Adwoa Safo said that she will resume her duties as an MP and a Minister when her son is fit and healthy.
She stated that currently, she is taking care of her unwell son in the United States and has to ensure all is settled before she returns to the country.
Adwoa Safo said that she has served her constituents for the past 12 years and will not abandon her duties as a Legislator.
“I will be returning definitely to serve my people. I lead and serve the people of Dome-Kwabenya and I have done that for the past 12 years and I know exactly what my responsibilities are and I am definitely going to do that.
“As you know, my son is unwell and has to transition to school, so I have to ensure that all that is settled before I can resume my duties and that is exactly what I am doing,” she said.
