The Ghana Football Association has announced that GPL Match-week 29 outstanding match between Ashantigold SC and Asante Kotoko SC has been scheduled for Thursday, June 2, 2022.
According to the GFA, the match will be played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium at 3pm.
The regional derby which was originally scheduled on Thursday, 19th May was called off indefinitely following an intelligence report from the Ghana Police Service which reveals supporters of the Miners plan to interrupt the game.
Ashgold were recently demoted from the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League after being found guilty of match manipulation in their 2020/21 match-week 34 GPL game against International Allies.
The President of Ashantigold SC Dr. Kwaku Frimpong and his son, Emmanuel Frimpong ( CEO of Asantigold SC ) and Officials of the Club have all been sanctioned and served with bans after being found guilty in the alleged match-fixing scandal.
Eight players of the club have also been banned for two years each after being found guilty of match manipulation, while a further five players have also been handed four year bans for failure to appear before the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
The GFA in a statement disclosed that ”should the security risk and the advice from the Security Services remain unchanged by the next home match of Ashantigold SC, the Association reserves right to shift the home games of the Obuasi based Club to a selected venue of their own choice”.
