The Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Boabeng Asamoah, has refuted claims that government is undermining the Special Prosecutor and setting him up to fail.

The office which was set up purposely to curb corruption is yet to prosecute a single case, more than a year after it was set up.

The situation has led to a call for the resignation of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.

Speaking on Citi FM morning show, Mr Boabeng called on Special Prosecutor to communicate his challenges to the general public.

He called on him to build a durable institution to be able to stand the test of time.

He also advised him to be proactive and not wait for the AG’s department before communicating his challenges.

“This is the time where he should be building an institution…an institution that will stand the test of time. He needs some optimum number of prosecutors, but he does not need to have all the attorneys and prosecutors before he starts moving”.

He added that the office of the Special Prosecutor offers the best chance to fight corruption effectively.

“If the person that is being tasked to build the institutions feel that he hasn’t received the cooperation that he deserves, probably, he should be regularly putting it out,” he added.
