The Minority in Parliament is demanding justification from government over the proposal to reduce Government stake from 43 to 18% in the AGM petroleum agreement.
The call follows the laying of an amendment in parliament to the petroleum agreement between the government and AGM petroleum over the Deep Water Tanor Contract area.
A similar proposal for a review of this agreement was said to have been rejected by Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyako. However, the amendment was laid on the floor of parliament on Monday.
Ahead of a crucial joint meeting on Thursday between the Mines and Energy and the Finance Committees, Ranking Member for the Mines and Energy Committee, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu stated that the nation will lose billions of dollars in potential revenue if the amendment is not rejected.
He added that Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has already acquired 3D size data on the block and has paid $30,000,000 for it. He therefore called on the government to see to it that the data is not given out for free to help boost the terms.
“GPNC paid $30 million for this data and you are giving it free, reducing rather the terms instead of it helping us boost the term”.
Mr. Mutawakilu also called on all Ghanaians call the presidency to order as he is of the view that President Akufo-Addo is on an agenda to rob and deny the country access to potential dollars.
“I think that President Nana Akufo Addo is on an agenda to rob Ghana… So we Ghanaians must stand up against this move of President Nnana Akufo-Addo to deny us of billions of dollars potentially,” he said.
He added that the Minority will be waiting for the Minister of Energy to convince them on how the amendment will be more beneficial to Ghana.
