Five persons out of a total of 13 passengers on board a Toyota Hiace minibus have been confirmed dead in an accident on the Akim-Birimso road.
The bus they were traveling in veered off the road and crashed into the rear portion of a Daf low bed on a section of the road at Akim Birimso on the main Accra-Kumasi Highway.
According to the police, the driver of the Toyota Minibus with registration number GT 3799- 16 now deceased, lost control of the bus and crashed into the articulated truck with registration number AK 1145 – 21.
Five persons were killed instantly in the process.
Seven other persons on board the Toyota minibus who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Hawa Memorial Hospital in Osiem.
The Eastern Regional Police PRO, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the unfortunate incident to Citi News said the bodies have been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital for autopsy, preservation, and identification.
There have been similar accidents that have claimed lives and left many injured in some parts of the country in recent times.
On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, a gory accident happened on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway, at a place called Asemasa, claiming the lives of 14 people and leaving two critically injured.
The accident happened between a bus returning to Accra, and a Truck carrying stones as the truck’s tyre allegedly burst to cause it to veer off the road, leading to a collision with the Ford bus which caught fire and burnt all 14 passengers.
