The Greater Accra Regional Deputy Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Kassim has entreated members of the party to exhaust the party’s internal mechanisms before heading to court for the resolution of conflicts.

According to him, the constitution of the party stipulates that an individual must follow a particular procedure in a bid to get conflicts resolved.

This comes on the back of some persons heading to court to get issues springing up during the preparation or voting process for electoral coordinators within the NPP resolved.

In a Citi News interview, after a ceremony to swear in eighteen electoral coordinators within the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, the Chairman of the Election Committee in the constituency, Mr. Kassim bemoaned the lack of trust in the party’s laid-down structures to resolve conflicts or issues.

“We are a democratic party guided by a formidable structure and governed by a constitution, and this constitution anticipates disagreements. That is why it requires that in times of disagreement, parties exhaust all internal structures before the courts are brought into the picture. The phenomenon of party people running to the court at the least disagreement is a worrying trend that must stop.”

The aspiring Nasara Coordinator of the Greater Accra Region, Jeff Kassim responded to accusations levelled against him concerning the fact that his conduct before and during the elections was against the guidelines of the General Secretary of the NPP.

“Every decision that was implemented was made by the committee that was given the power to run the elections, and the committee was represented by both factions in the constituency. So I find the allegations against me surprising since nobody was in dissent with the resolutions that were reached during the meetings of the committee. Decisions allowing old delegates to run unopposed and sharing of new polling stations equally between the two factions was a popular decision to reduce tension and to prevent more cracks in the party in the constituency”.

He rejected accusations that he removed 600 people from the register and replaced them with different names.

“The constituency recorded more than 90 percent voter turnout in the Electoral Area Coordinators elections, and all delegates who came out to vote found their names in the constituency. So clearly there is no truth in the allegations”.

He further encouraged leaders of both factions to meet over the disputed register and resolve all outstanding issues.

“The party’s lawyers are in court over the case brought against the committee, and I believe that the committee and I will be vindicated at the end of the day”.
