Black stars interim coach, Otto Addo says he is content with Ghana’s barren draw with Nigeria in a highly publicized derby, of the first-leg of the 2022 World Cup playoffs in Kumasi on Friday.
The Senior National team at a fully packed Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi drew goalless with their West African neighbours, Nigeria leaving all to play for when the two sides clash in Abuja on Tuesday.
Ghana were dominant in the opening exchanges but failed to capitalize on the chances that came their way.
On the other end, Joe Wollacott also made a fine save to deny Moses Simon.
In a post match interview, Otto Addo expressed his satisfaction with the draw with the Super Eagles. According to him Ghana fully deserved the draw in Kumasi.
“I think the guys did well but under these circumstances, I can say they followed the plan and even though we made some mistakes, they stuck to plan. We had good positions, good runs. We created some chances and controlled the game in the first 30 minutes and there were some breaks and some fatigue, we couldn’t press like we would have wanted to, but in all, it was a deserved draw” He said.
The return match will be played in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on Tuesday with the winner over the two legs picking one of Africa’s five tickets to the World Cup.
