FixtheCountry convener charged with treason felony, remanded for 2 weeks

A convener of #FixtheCountry movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been charged with treason felony following his a post he allegedly made on social media to the effect that he would stage a coup if the Electronic Levy Bill is passed by Parliament.

A District Court in Ashiaman on Monday, remanded Mr. Barker-Vormawor into police custody for two weeks.

The court presided over by Mrs Eleanor Kakra Barnes-Botchway, denied a bail application saying the court did not have jurisdiction to grant the accused bail per the charge preferred against him.

The convener of #FixtheCountry movement, is expected to reappear before the court on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Background:

Mr. Oliver Barker-Vormawor , a convener of #FixtheCountry movement was apprehended by the Tema Regional Police Command following a post he allegedly made on social media to the effect that he would stage a coup if the Electronic Levy Bill is passed by Parliament.

The Police subsequently released a statement indicating that the post made by Mr. Barker-Vormawor contained a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the constitution of Ghana.
