Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku is confident the Black stars will make amends for their opening day defeat to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
The Black stars were far from their best in a 1-0 loss to the Atlas Lions of Morocco in their opening Group C match at the on-going TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021.
Sofiane Boufal netted the lone goal after 83 minutes at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
It was a mix-up in the Black Stars’ defending line that gave Boufal a chance to strike the ball past Ghana’s goalkeeper Joseph Luke Wollacot.
Ghana has another chance to appease fans on Friday when they face Gabon in their second group game. A win against the Gabonese will lift up the spirit of the players and the fans as they seek to break the 40 years AFCON Title drought.
“The team has recovered very well and training has been impressive. The players in training today have sent a clear message and signal about their readiness,” Okraku told pressmen in Cameroon on Wednesday.
“The boys would come back to winning ways and I’m extremely positive about our upcoming game against the Gabonese on Friday.
“The boys have recovered and promise to be competitive and I respectfully ask Ghanaians to throw their support behind this squad. This is a team that is made up of predominantly young players with 17 debutants.
“That tells you clearly that the future of the Black stars is very bright and it starts now. We need to be competitive and win against both Gabon and Comoros in the next two games.”
The Senior National team sit bottom of the table with no point to their name, the same situation as Comoros who fell to a 1-0 loss to Gabon in the other Group C matchday one fixture.
