NDC communicator arrested for using Mahama’s name for fraudulent activities

A Circuit Court in Kumasi has remanded a known communicator of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region into police custody for allegedly using the name of former President John Mahama to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The accused, Gabriel Agah, who pleaded not guilty, has been charged with defrauding by pretence.

The accused allegedly used the name of former President, John Mahama to defraud a businessman, one Nana Poku Agyemang, to the tune of GH¢150,000.

Head of Legal and Prosecution at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent, Kofi Blagodzi said, “so far, GH¢50,000 had been collected. He even went for another GH¢100,000, and he was arrested.”

He was arrested by police in Kumasi on December 12 following a tip-off.

The prosecution prayed the court to remand the suspect to give the police more time to investigate the matter.

The court presided over by Her Honour Jacqueline Avotri adjourned the case to January 5, 2022.
