The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the general public to be wary of car snatchers ahead of Christmas festivities.

The caution follows an increase in car snatching activities in the Greater Accra metropolis.

In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command revealed that such activities were becoming rampant in the national capital and advised citizens to install tracking devices in their vehicles.

The Police added that its Command was enhancing police visibility before, during and after the Christmas festivities and called for support from all.

The Police also disclosed that an arrest was made after suspect Ebenezer Owusu, a 27-year-old mechanic and resident of Kwadaso Amangoase, together with another, (on the run) feigned interest in the buying of a Toyota Tacoma valued GHC160,000.00.

He said Owusu sped off with the unregistered black Toyota Tacoma under the pretext of test driving it at Madina.

DCOP Seidu said a report was made by the owner and Police Mobile Patrol Team was assigned to pursue it, which led to Owusu’s arrest at North Legon.

“The Regional Police Command has stepped up our operations to ensure that people within the metropolis enjoy their Christmas season in peace. There are also certain categories of crimes that are coming to our attention, which is the snatching of vehicles.”

“On Monday, November 29, 2021, we had a case in which one Ebenezer Owusu ran away with a vehicle had shown interest in buying and the victim immediately got in touch with the police and one of our mobile patrol team was quickly assigned to pursue the vehicle and fortunately for us too the owner had a tracking device which helped us arrest him.”
