Following Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond in the film “No Time to Die,” Dwayne Johnson is throwing his name in the hat to be the next 007.
This comes as several names — including Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy and Regé-Jean Page — have been tossed around as possible replacements for the role.
Johnson told Esquire that he already has a connection to the franchise, noting that his grandfather, Peter Maivia, played a Bond villain in 1967’s “You Only Live Twice” opposite Sean Connery, who played the iconic spy.
However, the former WWE star is setting his sights a little higher, declaring, “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be a villain. You gotta be Bond.”
Meanwhile, Johnson is one of the busiest people in Hollywood and has a number of film projects already in the works.
He stars in the upcoming superhero film “Black Adam,” due out next summer on July 29. A few of his other upcoming projects, including “The King” and “San Andreas 2.”
