The police have begun investigations to apprehend perpetrators involved in the stealing of some newly installed galvanized crash barriers mounted at the four-tier Pokuase interchange.

According to them, police officials are engaging inhabitants around the interchange to gather enough information on such miscreants.

This follows a report by the engineers of the project that some crash barriers have been stolen, while 40 streetlights on the stretch have also been damaged.

The consultant for the interchange, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, in an earlier Citi News interview, called on the police to intensify patrols around the facility.

He said the situation is worrying and must be quickly tackled.

Ing. Bempong told Citi News that some of the items are stolen in broad daylight by persons pretending to be construction workers on the project.

“In fact, some of these things are done in broad daylight. When you go to the Awoshie end, when we were constructing it, some people were busily removing the crash barriers. You see them wearing the reflective vests and helmets,” he said.

In a Citi News interview, Director of Public Affairs Department for the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, said the police have intensified patrols around the interchange.

He assured that they will do everything within their power to ensure the project is protected.

“A case was reported to us and as a result, the Amasaman Command has rolled out an elaborate investigative process to search for the items and to also look out for those who did that, and we are also engaging the community members around Pokuase to assist us in this regard. We have also intensified our mobile patrol around the project.”
