The Greater Accra Regional Police Command says it has begun investigations into a daylight robbery incident that took place at Achimota on Monday, September 20, 2021.
It said it received a distress call about the robbery incident around 3pm and confirmed through its preliminary investigations that the robbers, two men on a motorbike, fired gunshots and made away with a cash amount of GHS29,000 stolen from a 33-year-old woman who was returning from the bank.
“The police found evidence that a gunshot had been fired at the scene of the crime. The robbers succeeded in taking away an amount of twenty-nine thousand Ghana cedis, (GHS 29,000.00) from the victim,” a police statement said.
A bystander sustained gunshot wounds and was sent to the hospital.
The regional police command said the victim is currently receiving treatment.
It urged the public to remain calm as it works to arrest the perpetrators of the crime, but called for support in terms of relevant information leading to the arrest of the robbers.
“The police urge members of the general public to remain calm, and further assures its relentless commitment to ensuring the arrest of the perpetrators of this crime in the shortest possible time, as investigations into the case is ongoing. The police further implore support form members of the general public to provide relevant information leading to the arrest of the robbers,” it added.
