Ghana’s power distributors have blamed outages in parts of the country to the severe rainstorm, Sunday dawn.

In a statement, the Power Distribution Service (PDS) says the rainstorm caused interruptions to its distribution systems leading to the outages.

According to the Service, trees were uprooted; bill boards tumbled on distribution conductors in parts of the capital which led to the outages.

Sunday’s outage comes after what has been an erratic power supply in the month of March.

Already, consumers have been complaining of unannounced outages with some claiming the dreaded power paralysis popularly referred to as “dumsor” was back.

The PDS which only recently took over from ECG has had to issue a statement attributing the outages to the road construction around Pokuase.

Consumers of electricity have taken to social and traditional media to lament the power outages which are affecting both commercial and residential users.

The PDS has now blamed Sunday’s outages on the rainstorm.

In the statement headlined “Outages due to rainstorm” the PDS said: “The massive rainstorm that hits Accra and parts of the country today March 17, 2019, has uprooted trees and brought down bill boards on our distribution conductors causing interruptions in our distribution system leading to outages.”

The Service however assured consumers it was working assiduously to normalize the situation.
