Samuel Kofi Adjei alias Jamalo, the driver who was charged with causing harm with an offensive weapon during the funeral of a New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator in Suhum in the Eastern Region, has been granted a bail of GH¢80,000 by a Koforidua Circuit Court.

A bail application case was to be heard today, September 7, 2021, by the Koforidua District Court, which last week remanded Jamalo. The case was however discharged after the prosecution filed a nolle prosequi.

After the case was discharged by the district court, the police proceeded to re-arrest the suspect and arraigned him before the Circuit Court.

The Circuit court presided over by Her Lordship Mercy Adei Kotei granted the bail with two sureties and adjourned the case to October 8, 2021.

Counsel for the accused person pleaded for bail for his client based on ill-health, which was met with stiff opposition from the prosecution.

The counsel for the accused Suleman Musah of Amoako Adjei Law Consult spoke to Citi News after securing bail for his client.

He maintained the innocence of his client.

“It is not this person who did it. You do not right a wrong with another wrong,” Mr. Musah said.

What happened?
Jamalo, believed to be the driver of the MP for Suhum, Oboafo Kwadwo Asante, reportedly attacked a member of the NPP communications team after a misunderstanding ensued at the funeral of another party communicator.

The misunderstanding, which resulted in a free for all fight among supporters of the MP and another who wants to unseat the MP, also resulted in the injury of another party member, who was later treated and discharged at the Suhum Government Hospital.

The Suhum Police Command has said the victim who sustained deep knife wounds on the forehead was responding to treatment at the emergency ward of the Suhum Government Hospital.

Another victim, who suffered bruises on the lips, has since been treated and discharged. Police say it is doing everything possible to arrest the attacker.
