Black stars Head coach, CK Akonnor is confident ahead of Monday’s showdown with Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium despite the loss of several key players.
The team will be without at least four of the players who started in the game against Ethiopia, following the decision by the Premier League clubs not to allow their players travel to COVID-19 red listed countries.
Ghana’s anticipated Matchday two game against South Africa will arguably be C.K Akonnor’s toughest game in Group G, but C.K. Akunnor is unfazed by the challenge, including the loss of several key players.
“Because we were aware of the situation, so we are well prepared. We knew that the English players might not come here with us because of the Covid situation,” Akonnor said at the pre-match press conference on Sunday.
“So we were prepared coming here and we knew exactly what will happen, so it’s not going to be a complaint.
“It is a match that we are taking it very seriously. When we played Ethiopia there were certain things we needed to do.
“We have learnt from them and we think and we believe that come tomorrow we will improve and we will be looking forward to have a good match and we look forward to get the three points.
“We are focused and we know exactly what we have to do.”
On Ghanaians wanting to see the team play and perform well to make another World Cup, C.K Akunnor said:
”What is important is that we have to be efficient. Against Ethiopia, we didn’t excite you guys but we were efficient and it’s because we won. As we speak now, we are on top of the table and so we are not going to allow influence of outside pressure to disturb us”.
”Like I said, we are focused, we are here, we have seen South Africa against Zimbabwe, we have a strategy and we believe that it will work. We believe that even if they change their style of play we have an antidote to it and we will move out of this place with three points”. The Black stars coach added.
The former Asante Kotoko gaffer is hopeful his team will pin South Africa to three maximum points as he looks ahead in a matchday two fixture at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium.
”It is a match that we have taken very, very seriously, when we played Ethiopia, there were certain things we needed to do, we have learnt from those things and I believe that come Monday, we will improve and we are looking to have a good match and the team is looking forward to have the three points”. He concluded.
