Supreme Court nullifies injunction against #FixTheCountry protest

The Supreme Court presided over by Justice Yaw Appau has quashed the Ghana Police Service injunction on the #FixTheCountry demonstration.

The ruling was delivered today, Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

It is recalled that the Ghana Police Service filed an ex-parte motion at the High Court against the planned protest and got a ruling in its favour on May 6, 2021 owing to to the imposition of COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings.

The #FixTheCountry campaigners However, insisted that the order is unlawful as, under the High Court’s rules, injunctions granted without arguments by the affected persons (ex parte) ought to last for just 10 days.

The campaigners, subsequently filed an application on 7th May 2021, at the Supreme Court seeking to set aside the order of the high court.

The #FixTheCountry campaign started on social media by some youth who are demanding good governance from the Akufo-Addo-led government.

Notable personalities added their voices to the campaign, expressing concerns about how the country is being governed currently.
