The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) is optimistic that the concerns it raised in its petition submitted to Parliament would be addressed soon.

Last week, the leadership of the Association met with the Health Committee of Parliament and subsequently submitted documents to support their demands and arguments made in the petition.

Speaking to Citi News, the National President for the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani, indicated that the Ministry of Health is expected to submit their supporting documents this week to aid the committee in its work.

“Having met Parliament last week, we were to provide them with the necessary documentation in order to help the presentation we did for them.”

“So we have sent all the needed documents to them and we are expecting the Ministry of Health to meet the committee this week and also do their presentation and from there the Chairman of the Committee will offer directions as to what next.”

The association called off its nearly two-week old strike on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

The decision was taken after a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health which promised to address their concerns.

Members of the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital first declared a sit-down strike on Thursday, May 20, 2021, to protest the decision of the hospital’s management to keep two medical specialists in key positions at the Laboratory Services Directorate of the facility.
