A Fabio Gama’s great header in the first half proved to be the decisive moment of the matchday 28 fixture in Obuasi as Asante Kotoko emerged supreme in the Ashanti Derby in the Ghana Premier League.
The Brazilian midfielder’s 23rd minute goal temporarily sent the Porcupine Warriors from the second position to the top of the table, just above arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, who face Great Olympics in a late kick-off fixture on Sunday.
Gama left unmarked in the box headed home a superb cross delivered by left-back Patrick Asmah.
The Miners tried but could not alter the scoreline as the Porcupine Warriors secured the win to end their winless run.
By virtue of today’s win Kotoko currently are one point above Hearts. Ashanti Gold, meanwhile, are 10th on the League log.
