Former Black Stars midfielder Stephen Appiah says interference in national team call – ups never happened during his playing days.
The GFA have been accused recently of imposing players on national team coaches including Black Stars head coach C.K Akonnor, a claim they have dismissed emphatically.
Appiah who captained the national team during his playing days says merit based on form was the only condition of eligibility in his era.
“Luckily in my time I never experienced that.
“The coaches called players based on form.
“If you are playing well of course you would get a callup.
“We have to know is that even if the best players are called up there will still be people that will be pointing out that certain players should be called up.
“I have never experienced the interference and now that I am away from this team I don’t know what is going on there,” he stated in an interview with TV3.
Appiah served as technical coordinator for the Black Stars during Kwesi Appiah’s stint as national team head coach.
