Hon. (Dr) Yaw Adutwum, Minister for Education

The Ministry of Education says it will soon come out with what it calls a universal policy to guide faith-based schools.

This was one of the outcomes from a marathon meeting between the sector minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and faith-based organizations on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

The refusal of Wesley Girls’ High School to allow Muslim students to fast with the consent of parents after a directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES) has attracted mixed reactions from the different religious sects and stakeholders.

The Ministry of Education in a statement signed by the Chief Director after the meeting assured that the outfit is working to bring finality to the matter.

“The Minister assured the group that he would liaise and work together with all faith-based organization to bring finality to the current challenges while helping develop a universal policy to guide all FBS in the country.”

The group (FBOs) also urged the Minister “to speed up to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was submitted to the Ministry a few months ago by the FBOs”.

Wesley Girls’ High School has been in the news for preventing a Muslim student from taking part in the Ramadan fast.

The school has been heavily criticized for the decision.
