The Accra Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for persons involved in the exhumation of a buried body at the Abokobi-Boi public cemetery in Accra.

According to the police, on 11th May 2021, they received information that a group of people from Abokobi-Akporman had gone to the Abokobi- Boi public cemetery and buried one Theophilus Budu, aged 49, who died on 10th May 2021.

The police, upon receiving the information, reportedly proceeded to the scene and confirmed the report.

The police added that about 5:00am on May 12, 2021, they received information that the casket with the body of the deceased had been exhumed from the grave and placed outside by unknown persons.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the exhumation followed alleged long-standing land litigation between Abokobi-Akporman and the Abokobi-Boi families. Police proceeded to the cemetery and confirmed the exhumation of the body,” a statement from the police noted.

The police reported that the casket with the body was conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

“The Ga East Municipal Assembly was informed of the exhumation and together with the police have invited parties involved in the burial to assist police in investigations,” the statement added.
