Ghana’s consulate in Dubai has issued a statement that between January and March Five Ghanaians have been for attempting to traffic Marijuana to the United Arab Emirates.
According to the communiqué, most persons had no clue the drugs were in the packages given to them.
“The sad part of it is that all the parcels containing the weed were given to them by the agents in Ghana, who acquired the UAE visa for them, with instructions to them to give the parcels to their counterpart agents in the UAE on arrival”.
“It is also interesting to know that the weed is normally hidden in food items,” the statement added.
one of the five people has been sentenced to 10 years in jail, “probably for carrying weed he was not aware of and weed that someone else would have benefitted from”.
The consulate urged Ghanaians travelling to the United Arab Emirates to be cautious when accepting parcels to be delivered to others.
