Ken Ofori Attah

Parliament has endorsed Minister-designate for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s second tenure.

Mr. Ofori-Atta was approved on consensus following recommendations by the Appointments Committee.

The report was presented by the Majority Chief Whip, Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on behalf of the Chairman of the committee, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu.

Parliament, as a whole, approved the report and approved the nomination by a voice vote.

He endured a two days of questioning by the Appointments Committee on Ghana’s increasing debt stock, the state of the cedi, revenue mobilization, the controversial Agyapa royalties deal among other issues pertaining to the economy.

Ken Ofori-Atta has been battling with ill health and had to travel to the US to seek further medical care, following complications from COVID-19.

This compelled the committee to postpone his vetting which was originally scheduled for March 8, 2021. He however returned to Ghana on Monday, March 22, 2021.

Mr Ofori-Atta now awaits his swearing in by the President.
