Ken Ofori Atta

The Minister-designate for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, is scheduled to be vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday, March 25th 2021.

Mr. Ofori-Atta was initially scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, 16th February, 2021, however he had to travel to the US to seek further medical care, following Covid 19 complications.

This compelled the leadership of Parliament to fix a new date for the interview.

In the four years of Ofori-Atta’s oversight he was confronted with a near bank collapse in 2017, an ever increasing debt stock, a topsy-turvy state cedi performance with a poor revenue mobilization track record.

His tenure was not also without controversy and allegations of corruption.  The Agyapa royalties deal, among other issues became a huge campaign issue with critics accusing the minister designate of potential conflict of interest and corruption.

His vetting could potentially be a marathon one given the plethora of issues, including PDS which members of the Appointment Committee are bound to raise.
