The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says consumers of power should expect some intermittent power outages in the coming months.

This is due to ongoing projects on the Pokuase and Kasoa substations and other transmission line works across the country.

These works are expected to ultimately fix certain incidental problems in the power system to ensure reliable power supply across the country.

The information was contained in an opinion editorial penned by the Chief Executive of GRIDCo, Jonathan Amoako-Baah.
This follows the total system shutdown and total power outage experienced nationwide on Sunday, March 7, 2021, which has led to many calling for a full-scale investigation.

GRIDCo, ECG and NEDCo have meanwhile communicated that they are investigating the problem which was a result of a fault on a major transmission line between Prestea and Obuasi.

In giving further insight into the events of March 7, 2021, while highlighting steps being taken to ensure the experience doesn’t occur again, the Chief Executive of GRIDCo stated emphatically that “Dumsor” is not coming back, as all key participants in the value chain are working hard, in an effort to maintain stability, accessibility, consistency and reliability of power supply at all times. Currently, according to Mr. Amoako-Baah, Ghana’s system peak demand is close to 3,200MW with an installed capacity of 5,300MW, and with multiple works being undertaken across the value chain, power delivery to different parts of the country will be greatly enhanced.

The editorial goes on to further add that GRIDCo and ECG, in partnership with the firms working on the key projects, will in the weeks to follow, adequately inform the public on the outage plans required for completion of the respective works in good time.
