The Black Satellites of Ghana have booked a place in the semi finals of the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Cameroon.
After a goalless 90 minutes of action, the Cameroonians took the lead through Kevin-Prince Milla in the first half of extra time before Frank Boateng equalized for Ghana to take the game into penalty shoot-out.
Ghana scored all of their first 4 kicks, while Ngoni Ali and another missed their kicks to hand Karim Zito’s men victory. Highly fancied Cameroon were tipped by many to beat Ghana.
Cameroon qualified to the last eight as the only team with a 100 percent record, having won all their matches in the group phase. They beat hosts Mauritania and Uganda by a solitary goal, before thrashing Mozambique 4-1 in their final Group A match. They collected all nine points while conceding only one goal.
Ghana’s Black Satellites on the other end came through as one of the best two third placed teams, having finished off with four points. They won 4-0 against Tanzania before drawing drawing 0-0 with group winners Morocco, but it was their final day 2-1 loss at the hands of Gambia that dipped them to third in the standings.
