Asante Kotoko recorded a 2-0 win over Karela United to go top of the league for the first time this season at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Aiyinase on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors inflicted on Karela their first home defeat of the campaign courtesy goals from Ibrahim Imoro and striker Kwame Opoku.
The Porcupine Warriors made a slow start but had goalkeeper Razak Abalora to thank for not conceding.
They recovered and took the lead few minutes to halftime through Ibrahim Imoro, who fired low just in front of the 18-yard box to beat an outstretched Karela goal keeper. Imoro did not celebrate his goal against his former club.
Kotoko extended their lead courtesy Kwame Opoku after the hour mark. The striker produced a superb finish after beating the offside trap to take his tally to seven goals.
The Porcupine Warriors go top of the league for the first time this season while Karela, who were leaders before kickoff, drop to third in what appears to be one of the most competitive leagues in recent times.
