Akufo-Addo- Mahama

The Electoral Commission says it has so far received 14 out of 16 regional presidential results and is likely to declare the winner of the 2020 presidential elections later Wednesday.

At a press conference, Wednesday dawn, Chair of the Commission Jean Mensa apologized profusely for the Commission’s inability to declare the results within its advertised 24-hour period.

She attributed the delays to poor weather conditions on the day of the election which she said prolonged the voting, counting and collation processes.

She was quick to add that the Commission was working feverishly to declare the results later Wednesday.

Out of the 14 Regional results received so far at the National level, seven of them have been certified by the Commission and have been released on the Commission’s social media pages.

She said two reps each of the political parties are at the national collation rooms, to check and ensure that the results received from the regions were in sync with what they had independently received.

Northern Region and Bono East are the two remaining regions yet to submit the collated results.

According to Jean Mensa, there were disagreements in two constituencies, one from each region which appear to have delayed the collation and subsequent release of the results of the two regions to the national head quarters.

She hoped by Wednesday, morning that issue will be resolved the results will be released for collation and declaration.

False Allegations

The Chair of the Electoral Commission also described as false claims by sections of the political accusing the EC of rigging the polls.

She said the rigor of the electoral system and processes, the transparency and level of participation of the political parties make it highly impossible for the EC to rig the election.

Her response follows accusations of rigging by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Jean Mensah said at a every point of the electoral process, right from the polling station, collation center, regional and national collation centers, the reps of the political parties are very much part of it and sign, approve every part of the process.

She could not understand how her outfit could be accused of rigging the poll.

She charged the citizens to ignore the reports of rigging and look forward towards a declaration, Wednesday.
