Hon. John Peter Amewu

Minister of Energy, Peter Amewu’s third attempt at becoming the parliamentary representative for Hohoe has finally proven successful.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate garnered 26,952 votes while his National Democratic Congress (NDC) opponent, Margaret Kweku, polled 21,821 votes.

The incumbent Member of Parliament is the NDC’s Bernice Adiku Heloo.

In the 2016 elections, Heloo polled 35,437 representing 82.93% of total votes cast against the NPP’s Marlong Praises Anipa’s 6,462 (15.12%) votes.

In 2012, Bernice Heloo had 40,486 votes representing 81.55% against the NPP’s Obro-Adibo Janet Emefa’s 6,358 which was about 12.81%.

The Hohoe constituency was one of the few constituencies in the Volta Region that had become a battleground.

Some persons were confident of victory for Mr. Peter Amewu, ahead of the election, while others believed that the NDC candidate had enough grounds to retain the seat.
