The Electoral Commission (EC) has caused the arrest of two of its officers alleged to have tampered with the election process.
Mary Adatsi and Ahmed Shafawu were picked up in the Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central constituencies respectively for tampering with the presidential ballots.
According to reports, the two tore the presidential ballot paper from the booklet without including the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party.
This meant that instead of 12 candidates on the ballot only 11 were represented with the John Mahama, the candidate of the NDC now becoming number one on the ballot.
Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West is convinced the act by the EC officer was orchestrated to favour the ruling party.
He said number one on the ballot paper has been a massive campaign message by the NPP to its supporters and so any act by the EC official to omit the NPP candidate and replace him with the NDC candidate is criminal.
The EC confirmed that the ballots have been tampered with and the suspects have been arrested.
In a statement the EC cautioned its officers to ensure that all presidential candidates appeared on a thumb-printed ballot paper before it will be considered as valid and counted.
The commission further charged agents of political parties and candidates as well as the general public to be vigilant to ensure free and fair elections.
