NPP NDC clashes

Scores have been left wounded in clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Jamestown in the Odododiodoo constituency, Sunday.

The clashes which happened on the Atta Mills Highway, come 42 days away from the 2020 elections.

It is not clear yet what may have triggered the clashes. However, videos of the clashes have since gone viral with supporters of the two parties seen hurling stones, bottles and other offensive weapons at each other.

Some of the supporters were left soaked in blood after being pelted with the stones.

Reports say the supporters of the two parties were embarking on two separate walks when the clashes occurred.

This is not the first time both supporters have clashed in the constituency. Ahead of registration in the 2016 elections there was violence which led to the assault of an NPP Member of Parliament Ursula Owusu Erkuful.

Just last month, the incumbent Member of Parliament Nii Lante Vanderpuye was also assaulted close to the James Town police.

He accused supporters of the NPP of masterminding the attack on him. The case was reported to the police.

Sunday’s clashes send worrying signals to the security about rising tension in an area which is no stranger to election violence. No arrests have been made.

The Leaders of the two parties in the Constituency have since lodged a complaint at the Police Station, Cedidollar has learnt.
