The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will on July 18, 2020 hold its national convention through a virtual meeting to acclaim its new national officers.
The meeting will also affirm the officers nominated for appointment as per the party’s constitution, such as the executive director and the director of operations.
All regional chairpersons and their executives, as well as national committee members will participate in the virtual meeting, while constituency executives will follow the proceedings via the party’s social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, as well as Zoom.
Vetting and approval
The Daily Graphic can confirm that the national committee vetted and approved those seeking elective positions on July 6, 2020, while those to be appointed were vetted last Friday.
The Founder and Leader of the party, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom; the National Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond, and other party gurus such as Mr Mike Eghan Jnr, Mr Divine Nkrumah, Mr Richmond Keelson and Ms Belinda Bulley, took part in the national committee meeting.
Sources close to the party told the Daily Graphic the party’s constitution prescribed six contested positions, namely the national chairman, first, second and third vice chairpersons, national secretary and national treasurer.
Article 38 (a) of the party’s constitution provides that, “The national chairman, national vice chairpersons, treasurer and secretary of the party shall be elected by the card-bearing members of the party voting in their constituencies under rules to be determined by the national committee.”
The sources said the rest of the positions were to be appointed by the national committee.
Some of the appointed positions are the director of operations, executive director, women coordinator, youth coordinator, director of policy and director of communications.
