In the first match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship, the Black Starlets got off to an amazing start, defeating Ivory Coast 5-1.

Mark Kagawa, Godfred Srapong, and Harve Gbafa all scored goals in the second half to cap off an incredible afternoon for Ghana.
In addition to thrilling the crowd, Laryea Kingston’s team lit up the stadium with a scorching performance and amazing goals.
Following twenty-seven minutes of thrilling play, Joseph Narbi connected nicely with a pass from Mark Kagawa to put Ghana ahead with a stunning volley.
Three minutes before halftime, Narbi doubled Ghana’s lead with a personal brace, finishing with a blazing finish off a rebound.
Ghana had high expectations going into the half, knowing they would need to keep going to complete a flawless tournament opening.
Following the interval, Godfred Sarpong added to Ghana’s goal total with a flawless volley as the Black Starlets carried on where they had left off.
Moments after Ghana scored their third goal, Ivory Coast rallied to cut the lead to three goals, but Harve Gbafa headed home Ghana’s fourth goal off a corner kick by Benjamin Tsevanyo.
After driving home an incredible curler to cap off Ghana’s flawless start, Mark Kagawa brought the day to a wonderful close.
After defeating Ivory Coast 5-1 in the first game, Ghana’s prospects of moving on to the next round of the competition appear to be improving.
