Black Stars coach, C.K Akonnor believes his team’s poor second half performance in the Black stars’ 0-1 defeat to Bafana Bafana in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group G qualifier at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg, let them down.

Ghana was stung by a Bongokuhle Hlongwane 83rd minute goal, condemning them to a first defeat of the qualifying series.

Ghana drops to the second spot with 3 points in the interim as Ethiopia hosts Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

“We started very well in the first half, tactically we were very disciplined. It went the way we want it. [But] we were not clinical upfront, that’s the problem. But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game,” Akonnor said in a post match interview.

“In the second half, we somehow lost the midfield in terms of how we want to play because we believed that we could win the game. We did one or two substitutions, which really went the other way round and we kept dropping and dropping.”

The Black Stars return to action in October when they take on Zimbabwe in back-to-back games, while Group G leaders, South Africa play Ethiopia.
